Located in the vibrant coastal city of Da Nang, Vietnam, this tensile walkway canopy project offers both visual appeal and functional coverage for pedestrians. As part of the city’s urban beautification initiative, the walkway serves as a shaded path for tourists and locals, especially during hot seasons and sudden tropical rains. Jieol was commissioned to design, fabricate, and install a high-quality tensile membrane structure that blends seamlessly into the surrounding landscape while offering long-term durability. This 900㎡ project not only enhances the urban walkability but also showcases how lightweight architecture can solve practical challenges with modern elegance. The result: a stunning fusion of engineering and design that’s already gaining attention from other Southeast Asian municipalities.
Project Description
The Da Nang walkway canopy was developed to provide continuous shelter along a 150-meter public pedestrian route connecting two major tourism zones. Designed for daily use by commuters and visitors, the membrane structure balances performance and aesthetics. Its sweeping curves follow the contour of the walkway, supported by minimal steel framing to create an open, airy feel. The translucent membrane ensures ample natural light during the day while offering UV protection and rain resistance. At night, integrated lighting transforms the walkway into a safe and inviting urban corridor.
